We make cold pressed groundnut, sesame and coconut oils, homemade-style podis, cane jaggery powder (nattu sakkarai), snacks and traditional bath powders. Chekku oil, or cold pressed oil, is pressed out of seeds mechanically, without high heat and without chemical solvents. It is not refined, bleached or deodorised, so it keeps the natural colour, aroma and taste of the groundnut, sesame or coconut it comes from. All Chettyz oils are chekku cold pressed. No. Our oils are chekku cold pressed. No chemical solvents are used, and nothing is added to the oil: no preservatives, colours or flavours.

Because the oil is not heated or refined, it keeps the natural aroma of the seed. Groundnut oil has a mild nutty taste, sesame (gingelly) oil a rich, deep aroma, and coconut oil a fresh coconut flavour. These suit South Indian dishes and spices well.

Groundnut oil: everyday cooking, frying, poriyal, kuzhambu and dosa.
Sesame (gingelly / nallennai) oil: kara kuzhambu, vathal kuzhambu, pickles, tempering, and mixing with idli podi.
Coconut oil: avial, coconut-based curries, Kerala-style dishes and snacks.

Shop cold pressed oils

Close the cap tightly after use, keep the bottle away from sunlight and the stove, and use a dry spoon or ladle. In cool weather sesame and groundnut oil can turn slightly cloudy and coconut oil can turn solid. This is natural and does not affect quality. Check the best-before date on the pack.

Cold pressing uses no chemical solvents. The seed cake left after pressing (punnakku) is commonly used as cattle feed or as manure for farms.
